Shady Jay Cajones
Shady Jay Cajones are hand built by Shady Jay and myself. They sound great! We started off making them for ourselves, but everyone loved the sound (several percussionists have told us they sound better that any they've played before), so we started making them for friends. Word got around.
Beautiful! - we hand select the wood we use. Most of our Cajones are hand finished in water-based materials to bring out the natural color and to highllight the grain, variations in color, even knots in the wood. The playing surface (Plata) is select oak ply with either a natural or deep brown stain (used to highlight the grain).
Strings! - Most are "String Cajones", that is they have guitar strings inside that make a rattle sound like a snare drum. (If you don't want a string cajon, let us know!)

Cajones are perfect percussion instruments for beginning drummers but are built for professional use. They are perfect for dorm, bedroom or small apartments, but are just as at home in the recording studio or concert hall. Perfect accompaniment for acoustic or small group performances but can also be mic'd for hall filling sound.

Standard Size String Cajon: $120 +S&H

Large Size String Cajon: $150 and up + S&H
(Size varies based on the wood we get but typically are 14x16x20)

A pair of Cajones :)Box Drums are the perfect percussion instrument. Portable and Beautiful.
Each Drum features a comfortable pad to sit on, rubber feet positioned so you can lean back at the perfect angle to play. The sound hole is in the back and on most of the Cajones we build it's located near the top to serve as an easy handle for carrying the Cajon. The playing surface is selected for tonal quality and beauty of the grain. Our "Shady Jay" logo is stenciled on the lower portion of the playing surface. Every one we build has a unique grain pattern and all are hand finished for beauty and durability with a high quality acrylic finish.
